Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has hit back at fans who criticised the recent mini-reunion of the iconic grunge group at a Foo Fighters show over the weekend.

On Saturday night, the Foo Fighters hit up their hometown of Seattle for a huge performance in the grunge capital of the world. Supporting them that evening happened to be Giants in The Trees, the new band for Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

Seizing the opportunity, Dave Grohl welcomed Novoselic onto the stage midway through the set to take part in a mini-Nirvana reunion. With the Foo Fighters also featuring Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear in the mix, the band ran through their cover of The Vaselines’ ‘Molly’s Lips’ for the first time in almost 25 years.

However, as Alternative Nation reported, some fans weren’t too happy with the group’s performance, with some claiming it’s hardly a Nirvana reunion without their iconic frontman Kurt Cobain.

“Dave Grohl has no buisness sining or playing Kurt’s music,” one fan wrote. “I think it’s cool Dave, Krist, & Pat got to play together again,” wrote another. “But to call it anything more than three old buds jamming an old tune is incorrect.”

Soon enough, Krist Novoselic picked up on this criticism and decided to respond in the most tongue-in-cheek matter possible on Twitter.

“We tried to get a hold of him for this gig,” Novoselic ‘explained’. “As many times as we tried to contact Kurt, we couldn’t get through. The phone just kept ringing & ringing.”

“Kurt does not have email. In fact I have never emailed him in my life and I have been online since 1993.”

Krist Novoselic’s response was met with a surprising amount of level-headed responses, including one fan who asked exactly why people were annoyed at the brief reunion. “Sooo fans were pissed that you came onstage with Foo Fighters to play a cover song by The Vaselines that Nirvana covered before Dave Grohl was in the band? I’m confused.”

In related news though, Krist Novoselic spoke to triple j back in 2013 about the possibility of a Nirvana reunion taking place in Australia, to which he responded excitedly, noting “That’s the best plan I’ve heard all year. It has to happen.”

No word yet as to whether Dave Grohl, Pat Smear, and Krist Novoselic might decide to get back together with other musicians to deliver a Nirvana reunion, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger probably won’t be involved.
