It has been five years since we last heard from La Roux

Trouble In Paradise signalled a new sound and direction for Elly Jackson – ‘Uptight Downtown’ and ‘Paradise Is You’ remain severely underrated – but after its release, we didn’t really hear from La Roux on the recorded music or live front.

This week though, Jackson has gotten fans keen for a new project on the way, simply letting us know that La Roux is back at it.

La Roux’s social media presence has all but been wiped, an indicator that something more official is on the way.

Having split with creative partner and producer Ben Langmaid back in 2014, La Roux as a solo venture for Jackson proved to produce some lush sounds that threw back to disco, house and pop sounds of decades gone by. Speaking with NME back around the release of Trouble In Paradise, Jackson shone light on the split.

“I came to [Ben] with some rare disco references and he made it very clear he didn’t like them. There wasn’t a great deal of understanding.”

While remaining largely out of the spotlight in the years that followed Trouble In Paradise, Jackson did provide backing vocals on ‘Thank You’ by Tyler, The Creator, on his acclaimed IGOR record.
