The Workers Club plays host to many, many different bands, on any day of the week. Some are good, some are great, and there have been a few not-so-enjoyable bands, but fortunately, LA Vampires is none of those.

LA Vampires, for lack of a better word, is pretty awesome. So awesome actually, that they actually got all those trendy too-cool Melbourne kids to dance. Dancing, swaying, stomping; giving back almost as much as Amanda Brown was giving out.

Oh, Amanda Brown. What a lady. She went solo after Pocahaunted (with Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast) parted ways, and after gaining notoriety with her wacky music videos online, she started touring, providing upbeat electronic goodness for the world to fall in love with. This pint sized pocket rocket was totally involved, dancing away to the support acts Fabulous Diamonds and Forces and making sure no one stood still.

Assisted on stage with Britt Brown and Nick Malkin, they engulfed the band room in a universe of reverb; a hazy cave of sound that infiltrates your skeleton, much like a strobe light can completely flood your vision. It was an incredibly sensory experience, and she made it even more so by treating the stage like a jungle gym, standing on stools, creeping across the floor, sitting on the bar.

They played pretty much every song LA Vampires had in store, and seeing as every single track is that good, it’s hard to say which was the stand out. Perhaps it was ‘Streetwise’? Or ‘The Chic Shall Inherit The Earth’? Or maybe it was her Beyonce-esque dance moves that made ‘A Woman Is A Woman’ even better. Assuming that’s even possible.

She definitely doesn’t tour enough, as the applause and chants of “one more!” clearly showed. Come back soon, kids, we really dig it.
