The matriarchs of pop and rock have joined forces to celebrate the 70th birthday of John Lennon in New York. As you may have noticed by now, this is but one of the events organised in Lennon’s honour with the help of Yoko Ono.
Lady Gaga appeared in a retina-burning Cher-inspired ensemble for the last two songs of Plastic Ono Band’s three-hour show at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theater on Saturday night. Together they performed a duet of ‘Give Peace a Chance’ and ended their performance lying on a grand piano together. Gaga thanked Ono “for being so brilliant and such an inspiration to so many women” and later assaulted twitter with more proverbial pats-on-the-back “”We are Plastic Ono. I got to sit in as a guest musician tonight, what a legendary band and mother, Yoko.”
Luckily there was also some real talent present in the form of Sean Lennon, Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore and Iggy Pop.
