Another year, another Laneway lead-up hype-train, and of course, another fake ‘leaked’ lineup. Yes folks, we are sad to report today that the purportedly leaked Laneway lineup you may have seen doing the rounds on social media is a forgery.
The fake lineup popped up on the triple j sub-reddit about a day ago and was soon reported on by outlets like Music Feeds, though with an obvious degree of skepticism. That said, the now confirmed forgery is certainly a good effort.
Unlike other attempts in previous years, this crafty graphic design wiz actually used next year’s artwork and arranged the lineup in alphabetical order. They also added the appropriate presenters and the lineup certainly has a Laneway flavour.
Among buzzed-about local names like Alex Lahey, Vera Blue, Camp Cope, and Koi Child are hot international up-and-comers like Desiigner, Car Seat Headrest, and Travis Scott, as well as more established acts like Bon Iver and Bat For Lashes.
However, the poster is actually the work of an intrepid Twitter user, who tweeted at Laneway brass, asking if they could have free VIP tickets if they correctly guessed next year’s lineup. Laneway told them to give it a crack.
Their effort was certainly commendable, but just FYI, Run The Jewels not only played Laneway pretty recently, they already have gigs booked in for the first two dates of Laneway 2017. The official Laneway 2017 lineup will drop 14th September.
Plus, we may already have one name in the bag for the Laneway lineup after UK singer Nao let slip during an interview that she may be making her way Down Under for Laneway next year.
