triple j’s Lewis Hobba is undoubtedly well on his way to hip-hop legend status after making his rap debut on-air this week.

Late last week, triple j Drive host Veronica Milsom issued a challenge to co-host Lewis Hobba: write a rap track in just two hours.

Of course, many would balk at the sheer thought of such an imposing task, but not Lewis Hobba. Oh no, backed by a beat from KLP, and having received advice from both John Safran and Hip Hop Show host, Hau Latukefu, Lewis steeled his nerves and spat his debut rhymes on the airwaves.

To the amazement on many, his performance was actually quite amazing. Despite lyrics that saw him admit to being a virgin, drop crossword clues, and even admit to how his allergies make him sneeze and wheeze, we’d wager that Lewis Hobba could be a worthy contender in the 2018 Hottest 100.

Oddly, Radio Today noted that triple j’s recent segment was actually quite reminiscent of a challenge issued to Jackie O by Kylie Sandilands on KIIS FM. While Jackie O’s ‘Honey Money’ managed to hit the top of the iTunes charts, we sadly can’t say the same for Lewis Hobba.

Who knows though, this might just be the start of a burgeoning career for Lil Skoot.
