Who do you rely on as a voice of calm and sage advice in a time of crisis? Probably not Liam Gallagher. But that hasn’t stopped the former Oasis frontperson tweeting out his version of remedial comforts as the severity of COVID-19 sinks in.
“Drink through it,” Gallagher wrote on March 14. In a similarly-themed tweet a day earlier Liam spoke of how COVID-19 was making him “wanna get on it”. The timing was inconvenient, however: “Truth be told I’m meant to be having a break from the almighty juice,” he said.

But hidden among the stream of consciousness tweet sequence – which also included a link to John Lennon’s ‘Isolation’ – was one about Gallagher’s anticipated MTV Unplugged album. Gallagher and MTV have now both confirmed the album will be available in digital and physical formats on April 24.

Recorded at Hull City Hall in August 2019, the session saw Gallagher performing a selection of tracks from his two solo albums As You Were and Why Me? Why Not. In an unsurprising move, Gallagher also dedicated more than a third of the setlist to Oasis songs.
Liam’s never been quiet about his continuing affection for the Oasis catalogue and has generally regarded his solo career as a necessary compromise. On top of this, Liam famously didn’t show up when Oasis participated in the MTV Unplugged series back in 1996.

Well, Liam did make an appearance, but in unplanned and rather antagonistic fashion. After withdrawing from the show due to a sore throat, he sat in the crowd and heckled his older brother Noel who’d taken on the role of lead vocalist.
