The Lightning Bolt Australian Tour 2013 has been announced; following on from being announced as part of All Tomorrow’s Parties October event, Release The Bats, the noise rock duo have announced a series of sideshows around the country this October/November to complement their festival appearance.
A combination of Brian Chippendale’s atomic drumming and Brian Gibson’s speaker-shaking, bowel-rattling bass playing, Lightning Bolt’s live show is the stuff of legend, a violent sonic assault turned tribalistic orgy.
Emerging from Providence, Rhode Island in ’95 as an art project, Lightning Bolt soon became known for destroying the conventional idea of live performances; with their guerrilla style shows – typically playing in the middle of their crowd.
They’ve collaborated with a number of influential artists from The Flaming Lips to Björk and album after album they’ve grown tighter and brawnier. Lightning Bolt last left us, overwhelmed, in 2009, however return to Australia this October for ATP’s ‘Release The Bats’ Festival and national tour.
Lightning Bolt will provide Australian audiences a ferocious, second chance to discover why Pitchfork drools over their live show, describing it as an “atomic blast of crystalline fury that send shards of feedback and blistering distortion into anyone who dares witness such savagery in the flesh.”
