The troubled saga that is Fleetwood Mac continues, with ousted guitarist Lindsey Buckingham revealing he’s happily rejoin his former bandmates if asked.

Over most of the last year, there has been quite a lot going on in the Fleetwood Mac camp.

Back in April, it was revealed that after a total of 35 years in the group, Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham had been fired from the band, with Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Crowded House’s Neil Finn joining the lineup in his absence.

As the months went on, Buckingham addressed his firing, noting it was “not something that was really my doing or my choice,” and later revealed that it was Stevie Nicks who is responsible for his firing from the group.

Now, following the settlement of a lawsuit against his former bandmates, Lindsey Buckingham has revealed he would gladly rejoin the band, though he has no idea whether or not it will happen.

Speaking to Stereogum about his new solo career, Buckingham inevitably touched upon the topic of his firing from Fleetwood Mac, and whether he would ever return.

“Look, it’s Fleetwood Mac, anything’s possible,” he explained bluntly. “Maybe they’ll get it out of their system.”

“If they ask me to come back, would I? Sure, because to me I think the lack of a proper farewell tour, if that’s what we’re doing, that doesn’t undercut, like I say, the legacy that we have so carefully built as the five of us, which they’re not doing right now. I don’t know what they’re doing.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Buckingham found himself discussing the band’s recording sessions in the ’90s, noting how his absence led to the band becoming just as disjointed as it appears currently.

“It was just kind of a mess, kind of like it is right now,” he explained. “I even know what to call Fleetwood Mac right now, a cover band. Certainly not honoring the legacy the way it should be, and that’s the only thing that bothers me about what’s going on right now.”

“Look, I mean it does make me question who these people are, but again, to look at it compassionately, I think it’s all coming from a lack of perspective and to some degree a certain weakness on their parts. I can’t stop loving them because of that.”

Over the weekend, it was revealed that Lindsey Buckingham had settled a lawsuit against his former bandmates, having sued them for a breach of contract due to his firing.

“We’ve all signed off on something,” Buckingham explained to CBS This Morning (via NME) “I’m happy enough with it. I’m not out there trying to twist the knife at all. I’m trying to look at this with some level of compassion, some level of wisdom.”

The former Fleetwood Mac guitarist also noted that he felt as though he had been “kicked out of the family” thanks to the events of this past year.

While Buckingham also noted he felt as though he had been “kicked out of the family”, he revealed that Christine McVie had been in contact with him, explaining that he is missed in the band, while laying blame entirely on Stevie Nicks.

“She wrote me an email and basically said, ‘Dearest Lindsey, just know that I had nothing to do with any of this. Know that I miss you so much,’” he revealed. “She said, ‘I believe deep in Stevie’s heart that she would like you to come home.’”

Considering Lindsey Buckingham’s last absence from the band stretched from 1987 to 1997, there’s no saying how long it could be before he reunites with his “family” once more.
