After months of privately mourning the passing of their iconic frontman Chester Bennington, Linkin Park have announced their first show without him, a huge memorial event for fans set to take place in Los Angeles next month.
The one-off concert will take place at LA’s Hollywood Bowl on Friday October 27, with a host of special guests joining the band “for an unforgettable night of music to honour the man that touched the lives of so many around the world”.
The special show was first announced by Mike Shinoda last month, with the vocalist also suggesting the band may continue on without Chester Bennington.
“The five of us are so grateful for all of your support as we heal and build the future of Linkin Park,” he told fans on social media. “We are working on a special public event in Los Angeles to honor Chester’s memory and look forward to sharing details with you soon.”
This gig will be the first time the band have played together since their last show with Chester Bennington on July 6 in the U.K., and comes alongside a new video clip for the band’s single ‘One More Light’, which takes on a whole new poignancy.
“It has been incredibly emotional to work on this, and especially to watch it,” writes director Joe Hahn. “I feel that by doing it, we not only faced some of our biggest fears, but it enabled us to use our talents to bring some light to people that need it.
“As we move forward to the Hollywood Bowl show and beyond, I think about the people that connect with the band, outside and inside our circle. This video is a gesture of good will to the people that want that connection.”
“One More Light was written with the intention of sending love to those who lost someone,” adds Mike Shinoda. “We now find ourselves on the receiving end.
“In memorial events, art, videos, and images, fans all over the world have gravitated towards this song as their declaration of love and support for the band and the memory of our dear friend, Chester. We are so very grateful and can’t wait to see you again.”
