Perth songstress Moana Lutton, more formally recognised under the simple moniker of Moana, is one of the most interesting up-and-coming artists in Aussie music right now, and her stunning new single emphatically demonstrates this notion.

‘Echo’ sees the WA songstress step away from her grungier efforts, moving toward a more chilling gothic aesthetic, Moana creating a sonic nightmarish atmosphere of haunting layered guitars and a flurry of post-punk strings, while a subtle yet steady percussion beat backs the tune.

Frustration seems deeply embedded within the song as Moana’s wispy vocals cry, “if I could howl if I could growl/ if I could scream if I could shout” before clenching a fist like PJ Harvey à la Rid Of Me, warning “I‘ll be your echo echo”, as she unleashes her full, shattering vocal range in a pounding sense of catharsis.

This is one killer release and we cannot wait for more. Enjoy ‘Echo’ right here:
