While an infamous picture of the late icons David Bowie and Lemmy Kilmister turned out to be a hoax, the new cover of ‘Heroes’ released by Motörhead this week is very much the real deal.
One of Lemmy’s final recordings before his passing, the newly-revealed track is taken from the band’s upcoming covers album Under Cöver, Rolling Stone reports, which will also features the Sex Pistols’ ‘God Save The Queen’, Metallica’s ‘Whiplash’, and The Ramones’ ‘Rockaway Beach’ when it’s released on September 1.
The melancholy cover below was recorded in 2015 for the band’s Bad Magic sessions, with Lemmy passing away later that year, and it’s a bittersweet reminder of two of the icons we’ve lost in what has been a pretty tough time for music.
“It’s such a great Bowie song, one of his best, and I could only see great things coming out of it from us, and so it proved to be,” Phil Campbell told Rolling Stone, “and Lemmy ended up loving our version.”
“He was very, very proud of it,” Mikkey Dee added, ” not only because it turned out so well but because it was fun! Which is what projects like this should be – fun!”
The track is below in all its glory, pieced together with a touching clip full of live footage and archival shots, while Lemmy’s first ever solo album is also set to be released this year, having been started all the way back in 20013.
