As we announced last week, Roger Waters is releasing his first rock album in 25 years.
Is This The Life We Really Want follows a similar thematic path to his 1992 dystopian solo record Amused To Death, and will be available on June 2. The press release explains the forthcoming album as “an unflinching commentary on the modern world and uncertain times”, likening it to his previous politically-fuelled Pink Floyd albums such as Animals and The Wall. The lead single, ‘Smell The Roses’ certainly suggests Waters to be dealing heavily in political unrest.
The album was produced and mixed by Nigel Godrich, who has worked with everyone from Radiohead and Paul McCartney to Beck and Pavement, and features 12 Waters-penned tracks. The album also features session guns Joey Waronker on drums, and Roger Manning on keyboards.
