Just days on from organisers sorting out a new band for the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup to replace The Wild Feathers pulling out, it now looks like the festival are going to have wrangle another last-minute fill-in. And this time for a headliner.
Irish indie favourites Two Door Cinema Club are scheduled to headline the Amphitheatre stage on the Saturday night but reports from the UK suggest that the three-piece’s slot has been cancelled due to frontman Alex Trimble being hospitalised, leading to the band pulling out of several major UK festivals this week.
“It is with a heavy heart that we are going to need to cancel our upcoming shows at Latitude and Bournemouth Academy,” read a post on the Two Door Cinema Club Facebook overnight, as Music Feeds points out.
“Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint. We are devastated to have to cancel shows that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time.”
There is no official update from Splendour organisers as yet but NME are already reporting that Trimble’s sudden illness has canned their exclusive headline appearance at the Byron Bay festival as well as their UK performances.

Last year’s Splendour In The Grass was famously marred by the 11th hour pull-out of Frank Ocean, who cancelled his Australian tour and festival performance due to damaging his voice, but organisers roped in Lorde at the last minute, who turned out a triumphant set at the three-day winter music festival in what was a major career turning point for the then-16-year-old New Zealander.
“Full credit to Splendour’s nifty plan-b – she proves an outstanding choice, warming the cockles of those still mourning Ocean’s decision to stick with his honey, lemon and tea,” wrote our Splendour reviewer of last year’s event. “Like Jake Bugg and Haim before her, she oozes craftsmanship and live delivery beyond her adolescent years and puts to shame the rest of us who really weren’t too productive during puberty.
It does look like the Splendour 2014 set times will remain the same, with the slight alteration that Mt Warning will comfortably take to the GW McLennan stage on Sunday 27 July, replacing The Wild Feathers’ 3.30pm after they cancelled due to scheduling conflicts earlier this week.
