When Gorillaz released their fifth studio album, Humanz, back in April, it put an end to the seven year wait that fans had to endure to receive new music from the virtual group. However, frontman Damon Albarn has now stated that not only are the band hard at work on new tracks, but there’s a huge Aussie star set to appear in the new tunes.
As triple j report, the group just released ‘Garage Palace’, a brand new song featuring UK rapper Little Simz that features on the ‘super deluxe’ edition of Humanz. But while talking to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, Damon Albarn let slip that the group are getting a whole bunch of new tunes ready for public consumption.

While he was fairly tight-lipped about just who is involved, Albarn did specify a few big names that he’s been working with, including Australia’s own Flume, Usher, and famed producer Mike Will Made It. Albarn also claimed how while he’s working on a bunch of new stuff, we can expect to hear something very, very soon. “I’ve got one definitely that I’d like to put out by the end of the year called ‘Hollywood’,” he said. “I’m singing on it. It could be interesting.”
Considering that the band only released 20 of the “40 or 45” tracks that they had ready before the release of Humanz, we reckon there could be plenty of gold, both old and new, ready to be unleashed.
Meanwhile, NME have reported that Damon Albarn is also hard at work with David Bowie’s producer, Tony Visconti, to record a new album from the supergroup nicknamed The Good, The Bad & The Queen. While the supergroup technically have no name and are referred to by the name of their debut record, the group, consisting of Albarn, The Clash’s Paul Simonon, The Verve’s Simon Tong, and drummer Tony Allen first released an album back in 2007, and have been mysteriously quiet since then.
“I’ve been recording the Good, The Bad & The Queen album,” Albarn told Zane Lowe in the same interview. “I’ve been working with Tony Visconti. He’s responsible for some of my favourite records, so that’s been really enlightening and inspirational.”
While we might have to wait a bit for the new record from The Good, The Bad & The Queen, it looks like new material from Gorillaz will be hitting our stereos sooner rather than later. Either way, we can’t wait to hear what Sydney’s Grammy award-winning Flume will add to the band’s already phenomenal sound.
