Lorde is working on new music from isolation, which she deemed “so fucking good” in a newsletter sent to fans. She added that she is “truly jazzed” for fans to hear her new work.
The Kiwi singer-songwriter had been working on the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama when her dog, Pearl, passed away. In 2019, Lorde lamented that Pearl’s untimely death affected her ability to work on the album.
“It’s going to take some time and re-calibration, now that there’s no shepherd ahead of me, to see what the work is going to be,” she said in November.
However, it now appears that Lorde’s new music is not too far away.
“I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out,” Lorde explained in her update to fans.
“It flowed. A thing started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down. We’re still working away—Jack [Melodrama producer Jack Antonoff] and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer,” Lorde revealed.
Lorde also shared her excitement at the prospect of touring again in the near future.

“I know now how excited I am to get back out there,” she wrote, “I want to use my gift, and watch it grow.”
Lorde conceded that fans will have to wait a little longer for her new material. However, she assured them that the music is on its way.
“As I get older I realise there’s something to be said for the pleasant feeling of waiting for something of quality to become available to you,” she opined.
“You could have something of lesser quality much faster, but as the high quality thing comes into fruition, a warm feeling grows inside you. Do you know what I mean?”
