Marilyn Manson and Dennis Quaid recently joined Kris Kristofferson for one unexpected supergroup, with all three appearing onstage together in Los Angeles.

Throughout his storied career, Kris Kristofferson has easily become one of the most recognisable names in the genres of country, rock, and gospel.

Between working with huge names like Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, Kristofferson has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and starred alongside Barbra Streisand in the 1976 remake of A Star Is Born.

However, if ever you were to have tried to map out the career trajectory that this musical icon would have had, it’s unlikely you would have factored a 2019 collaboration with Marilyn Manson, right?

Well, as Revolver notes, Kris Kristofferson found himself performing at Los Angeles’ Ace Hotel on Sunday when this interesting guest spot occurred.

After tearing through 28 songs in a marathon set, Kristofferson welcomed Tanya Tucker, Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon Jennings, no less), actor Dennis Quaid, and Marilyn Manson for the penultimate song of the evening.

Together, this intriguing supergroup performed a rather soulful version of Kristofferson’s 1972 track ‘Why Me’, much to the delight of the eager crowd.

At this stage, it’s not exactly sure how this eclectic collaboration came about, with none of the musicians involved revealing the backstory behind such a performance.

However, Marilyn Manson did take to Instagram after the event to share a picture of himself with Kris Kristofferson. “An honor to be invited onstage with the true Star Is Born,” Manson wrote.

Whatever the case, can you imagine how wild this would be in Kris Kristofferson returned the favour? Personally, I wouldn’t mind hearing ‘Why Me’ followed up with a cover of ‘Antichrist Superstar’ sometime in the future.
