Mark Seymour & The Undertow will release their fourth studio album, Slow Dawn, on May 29th. It is Seymour’s 10th solo studio album, meaning he has now released more music as a solo artist than as a member of Hunters & Collectors.

Nick DiDia, best known for his work with Pearl Jam and Powderfinger, produced the record.

Mark Seymour & The Undertow shared the album’s first single, ‘The Whole World Is Dreaming’, and its accompanying video, earlier this week. The band recorded the video from the respective homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about the album, Seymour stated that “the new conditions we find ourselves in have prompted me to re-consider some of the ideas I’ve touched on in the course of writing Slow Dawn.”

“I have tried to write in isolation with mixed results. But at the very least, when the lads stepped in to add their grace, I wanted the songs on Slow Dawn to be as truthful as they could be,” he continued.

Of all the album’s songs, ‘The Whole World Is Dreaming’ resonates most with current circumstances, says Seymour.

“‘The Whole World Is Dreaming’… was written to be sung at the beginning and end of life, to demonstrate love in its most direct and unvarnished form,” Seymour revealed.

“To an infant or a dying parent, facing a new and unavoidable future, the outside world and the looming darkness of the end. And the ultimate state of being human: isolation.”

Mark Seymour appeared on the Music From The Home Front broadcast last week, without his Undertow bandmates. The Hunters & Collectors frontman instead teamed up with Australian Crawl’s James Reyne to perform ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ and ‘Reckless’.

The tracks were originally recorded by Hunters & Collectors and Australian Crawl respectively. In keeping with social distancing regulations, the two legendary rockers performed 1.5 metres apart from one another.
