The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has confirmed the Manchester band have completed work on two new albums during their recent studio sessions, with at least one set to bear the title DOGS.

The revelation came during an impromptu conversation with fans following a Q&A session at Gateshead College on December 2nd (as per Rolling Stone). In footage captured and shared on TikTok, Healy addressed questions about the mysterious word “DOGS” that appeared prominently on drummer George Daniel’s kit and flashed across screens during the band’s Glastonbury headline performance earlier this year.

When pressed about the cryptic reference, Healy confirmed “DOGS” represents the title of an upcoming album. The conversation took an intriguing turn when he revealed the extent of the band’s recent creative output, stating: “We made two. It might be one, it might be two, but yeah, we’ve made two albums.”

The disclosure marks the first concrete details about the 1975’s follow-up to 2022’s Being Funny in a Foreign Language. The band embarked on extensive touring throughout 2023 and 2024 in support of that record before announcing an indefinite hiatus — carefully distinguished from a permanent breakup — that saw them scale back their live commitments dramatically.

Their 2025 calendar proved notably sparse, with the Glastonbury Festival headline slot serving as their sole concert appearance of the year. The Pyramid Stage performance became particularly significant as fans spotted the “DOGS” branding, sparking widespread speculation about the band’s next creative direction.

The band’s manager, Jamie Oborne, had previously hinted at studio activity during a May appearance on The Money Trench podcast. Speaking ahead of the Glastonbury performance, Oborne confirmed the band were actively recording new material. “I don’t know when it will come out, but they’re making one,” he revealed, describing the emerging work as “already a pretty extraordinary record.”

Oborne emphasised the band’s measured approach to their next release, noting: “I think they’ve earned the right to take their time. The world’s gonna be listening, so it needs to be right.”
