Although The 1975’s new album Notes On A Conditional Form has been delayed twice now, frontman Matty Healy has revealed that he is working on new material for The 1975, as well as an album for his side project Drive Like I Do.
Everyone is trying to figure out what to do during lockdown, and Matty Healy is no different. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Healy revealed that he’s using the quiet time to work on a bit of new music.
“Yeah, we’re making stuff. I mean, I don’t know if we’re making like a new 1975 record, but to be honest with you, I wouldn’t be surprised, not like an album but like, I don’t know,” he cryptically teased to Lowe.
“Me and George [Daniel, drummer/producer] are here and we had a bunch of things that we were going to be working on kind of later on in the year anyway that we just kind of bumped up to now. So that’s good.”
Pressing onwards, Healy also revealed that him and George are also planning on diving into some early music from the days when The 1975 were called Drive Like I Do in hopes of putting out an actual album from that era.
“I’ve been doing Drive Like I do as well,” he explained. “I’ve been organising what songs of the old ones that exist on the internet.”
“I’m going to put [the album] out as an official [release]. The first album that never came out, but I’m going to follow it with… There was so much in between Drive Like I do, early 1975 stuff that just fell at the wayside. No one’s heard any of that,” he continued.

Although there is no news as to when this new material will make its way to our ears, we can at least hopefully count on the twice-delayed newest album from The 1975 to be dropped on May 22nd, as they’ve promised.
