Last month, Tool drummer Danny Carey offered fans a major update about the forthcoming record, confirming it would be out in April. Footage emerged of Carey telling a fan at California’s NAMM music convention that the new record is “gonna be out in mid-April. That’s the plan, anyway.” Now it looks as if frontman Maynard James Keenan is disputing the proposed April release.

Last night (February 5th), a Tool fan on Twitter asked Maynard James Keenan if the rumours about the April release were true, to which he responded with ‘No.’

Keenan has not responded to any tweets since. It’s worth noting that Tool have a reputation for messing with their fans and the media. So all this speculation may just be one colossal wind-up and the album may still arrive in April. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Back in January, Keenan confirmed that recording for the new album was done and the record was in the process of being mastered. It’s safe to say that we’ll probably be hearing new music from the band this year.

Tool’s currently untitled fifth record will be their first full-length LP since 2006’s 10,000 Years.
