It’s been a pretty grim couple of weeks for Aussie live music venues with Sydney, Perth and Adelaide all set to lose important performing spaces, however for the lucky folk in Brisbane, there’s only positive news, with the Queensland capital about to see a new live music venue open.

Situated in Rowes Lane, the brand-spanking live music area is entitled Sonny’s House of Blues, and not only will it provide a place for up-and-coming musicians to give it their all, it also will serve up delicious Mexican food, as Goodfood highlight.

This is the latest venture from Brisbane local Jamie Webb who already has a healthy portfolio of restaurants including Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, Gordita, Peasant and Los Villanos, “Sonny’s is modelled on classic LA dive bar,” Webb says. “I visited heaps when I was over there. The concept was that Sonny used to own this blues venue, then he died and his son turned it into a rock bar. It’s not a real story though, just something fun we made up.”

In terms of the food itself, he commented, “I’ve always wanted to do good Mexican in Brisbane, but then the ‘Mexican wave’ hit and I kind of put it to one side, the tacos will be the same as those we’ll have on the menu at Los Villanos.” “Sonny’s is meant to be fun, like Lefty’s we welcome everyone.”

Sonny’s will be open Monday-Friday noon-3am (kitchen closes 3-5pm) and Saturday and Sunday until 3am. For further information you can checkout both their Facebook and official website.
