Megadeth’s new record appears to be coming together quite nicely, with Dave Mustaine offering an update from the studio recently.
Over the last few months, we’ve been receiving quite a few updates in regards to Megadeth’s 16th studio album.
The follow-up to 2016’s Grammy-winning Dystopia, Dave Mustaine has revealed that while he had over 500 riffs to choose from for the new record, the drumming on this new release is “mind-blowing”.
Needless to say, fans are getting pretty stoked to finally hear what it will sound like.
Now, in a new interview with Music Radar, Mustaine has opened up about how the band’s new record is coming along, revealing how he’s going over and above his recording contract for their upcoming release.
“Whenever I’ve been home, I’ve been working on new music from 10 in the morning to seven at night,” Mustaine explained. “My co-producer Chris Rakestraw from the Dystopia team has been helping with pre-production on songs.
“I have about eight songs and there’s one which is just unanimously everyone’s favorite, which is great… I’m not saying there’s only one good song so far though, haha!”
“Let’s just say whenever I have that first song everyone gets excited about, I know I’m on my way to another great record.”

“We’re going to do 12 or 13 tracks this time,” Dave Mustaine continued. “My contract says I’m only supposed to do eight songs a record and I just can’t do that — it feels like cheating.”
“When I grew up listening to vinyl, it was a lot easier to buy a record and be happy with 45 minutes of music. When the digital world came, the paradigm changed — a musical offering needs a lot more.”
“People aren’t satisfied and hit fast-forward a lot,” he concluded. “So right now, we know we’re off to a good start; this new material is only going to get better and better…”
While there’s no word yet as to when we’ll hear this new material, Dave Mustaine has previously explained that we will “definitely” be receiving some new Megadeth tunes in 2019.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed back in January that Megadeth will be releasing a newly-remastered compilation album. Titled Warheads on Foreheads, that one will be released later this week, so keep an eye out.
