The Melbourne Zoo Twilights 2014 lineup has been announced, returning with a new season, a stellar bill of local and international artists to entertain with 14 shows running every Friday and Saturday over six weeks starting 24th January.
Melbourne Zoo Twilights offer a unique experience combining wildlife, stunning musical performances and gourmet delights, all within the spectacular grounds of Melbourne Zoo, under the blanket of balmy summer nights.
The Melbourne Zoo Twilights 2014 lineup is an impressive list, featuring maverick singer-songwriter Neko Case in a show with suburban pop purveyors Dick Diver, soul survivor Charles Bradley with Melbourne soul-certified 9-piece Saskwatch, NZ’s finest Fat Freddy’s Drop with electronic producer-performer Oscar Key Sung, and the one and only Dan Kelly, playing a show with comedy troupe-turned-a capella Aussie song showcase, Perfect Tripod.
Also on the Melbourne Zoo Twilights 2014 program is beloved rock trio Something For Kate with rising stars The Orbweavers, neo-noir RnB collective Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes with blues rock sensation Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, an Aussie troubadour pairing of James Reyne and Daryl Braithwaite, Josh Pyke with Thelma Plum, Xavier Rudd with Max Rudd, Jessica Mauboy with Ms Murphy, and Katie Noonan’s Songs That Made Me featuring Angie Hart, Abby Dobson & Martha Marlow.
There’s also special tribute shows to ABBA (BABBA), The Eagles (Hotel California), and even Priscilla Queen Of The Desert (Queens Of The Outback).
Tickets to all shows include full access to the Zoo: arrive early and enjoy a leisurely wander among the many exhibits. November will see the birth of a baby elephant, December will see the opening of the newly built Lemur Island exhibit and in October the Zoo welcomed Otana, a twelve-year-old male gorilla into the Melbourne Zoo family. Keeper talks at the Giraffe, Elephant, Wild Sea and Gorilla exhibits will take place before each show.
As with every Twilights season, all proceeds from the shows go towards the Zoo’s conservation programs. This year highlighting They’re Calling You – a campaign that aims to save gorillas in the wild through mobile phone recycling.
