There’s a brand new Metallica record on the way, with the group set to release an acoustic live album for charity next year.

Earlier this month, Metallica performed an incredibly rare acoustic set at San Francisco’s Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium to benefit their All Within My Hands Foundation.

Taking place on November 3rd, the show was opened by Cage The Elephant, and managed to help raise $1.3 million, which was split between organisations such as Feeding America and the American Association of Community Colleges.

While the band’s foundation also recently donated $100,000 to wildfire relief efforts in California, they’re set to raise a few more funds by selling a limited edition live album of their performance.

Set for release on February 1st, Helping Hands…Live & Acoustic at The Masonic is a twelve-song package that features a career-spanning acoustic set from the group, along with a number of intriguing covers.

While the show saw the band dust off tracks like ‘All Within My Hands’ for the first time since 2007, it also saw them playing classic tracks by the likes of Deep Purple, Nazareth, Bob Seger, and the Blue Öyster Cult, making this one unique show.

Although we’re still a couple of months away from the record being released, it’s available for pre-order now, arriving on two coloured LPs on heavyweight 140-gram vinyl, along with a download card.

In related Metallica news though, we’re still waiting for the announcement of some Aussie tour dates which Lars Ulrich said are on the way at some point.

“I mean obviously there’s an end at some point,” Ulrich explained about their current tour to So What!’s Steffan Chirazi.

“We gotta just sit and look. There’s Japan. There’s Australia. There’s New Zealand. There’s a couple other pockets that obviously Metallica has a long and very cool relationship with, so we just gotta sit down and figure it out.”

“But to me the most important thing is, and this goes back to what we were talking about [the last time], the maintenance thing,” he continued. “We gotta go to Japan, we gotta go to Australia, we gotta go here, we gotta go there. That’s fine. As long as it’s done within the boundaries that exist.”

“And so you know, I don’t think whether it’s ’19 or ’20 or whatever, to me we’re in a mode where there’s a balance to it now that’s manageable.”
