While we all know Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard as the lead of the ’80s-drenched sci-fi horror, it turns out that the influences of that particular era run deep with the young actor, to the point that he’s busting out classics from Gunners and New Order live on stage. We guess that, with a name like ‘Finn Wolfhard’, we probably should have expected it.
As Pitchfork reports, Wolfhard took to the stage at an LA charity gig to benefit the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, hosting the night and performing with his band alongside the likes of Tenacious D and Weird Al. He picked some great tracks to cover too, knocking out versions of New Order’s ‘Age Of Consent’, and Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’.
Having recorded a Mac DeMarco cover earlier this year, the guy’s clearly got some good taste in bands, and has told Dazed in the past that he’s keen to do a full album.
“I love 80s and 90s music,” he said. “I love Nirvana, Joy Division and New Order – older alternative, I guess. There’s a scene where they use ‘Atmosphere’ by Joy Division. Charlie Heaton’s character is crying. It’s perfect,” he continued, adding, “I want to somehow get an album or EP out.”
With child stars like Macauley Culkin and Corey Feldman not exactly setting the bar very high with their bands, maybe Wolfhard’s in with a shot.
