At an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Doors’ Morrison Hotel album, Miley Cyrus has joined forced with Doors guitarist Robby Krieger to cover their iconic song ‘Roadhouse Blues.’
Miley Cyrus covered the Doors’ ‘Roadhouse Blues’ alongside Doors guitarist Robby Krieger on Saturday at an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the band’s Morrison Hotel, which was released February 9th, 1970.
This isn’t the first time that Miley Cyrus has made an appearance to show off her vocal talents just for a cover. Recently, she covered Pink Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’, and received a rather mixed bag of feedback.
“My favourite faces to see in the crowd are confused dads,” Cyrus commented amidst her string of classic rock covers. In addition to ‘Comfortably Numb’, the pop singer also sang Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”.
Cyrus made her appearance unannounced at the all-star gig, only adding another impressive cover of a legendary band to her resume. This time around, she offered up a searing rendition of the Doors classic ‘Roadhouse Blues’, with none other than Krieger himself. The pair were also joined by the Tangiers Blues Band and producer Andrew Watt.
Gary Clark Jr., the Struts, Nicole Atkins and Dennis Quaid also took the stage at the celebration at Hollywood’s Sunset Marquis Hotel hosted by John Varvatos and Timothy White.
The event also marked the 20-year anniversary of the Morrison Hotel Gallery; photographer Henry Diltz, whose unauthorised photo of the Doors inside the transient Morrison Hotel resulted in one of rock’s greatest album covers, was also on hand for the festivities. A new exhibit at the Sunset Marquis gallery features outtakes from that impromptu photo session with the band.
