The first lineup, featuring Diplo, A-Trak, Above & Beyond, has just been announced for Minecraft dance festival Electric Blockaloo. The event will be held on the immensely popular game platform June 25-28, with more than 300 artists performing.

Isolation and lockdown may have brought a stand-still to live music, but that hasn’t stopped the industry innovating to connect with music fans. Minecraft has been slinging great virtual festivals like Block By Blockwest and Nether Meant, with Electric Blockaloo being the latest showcase of this creativity.

The dance festival will be the first event of its type hosted by Minecraft. The event will be produced by Rave Family, marking their first virtual dance festival. The electronic music company announced the lineup’s first wave, with over 300 artists expected for the second announcement next week.

COVID-19 has wreaked havoc upon the $7 billion music festival industry. Recognising this unfortunate devastation, Rave Family hopes Electric Blockaloo will redefine dance festivals for 2020.

The company’s founder Jackie McGuire said the new “normal is one without large festivals for the foreseeable future,” with the model empowering artists to monetise their own ticket sales by providing their own purchasing link to their fans.

To be bear witness to this brave new world of virtual dance festivals, you’ll need to get on the artist’s guestlist via their special link. From there you’ll get a special code to login to the Rave Family club.

Dance music fans and Minecraft peeps alike can attend the event through the Java and Bedrock edition of the game. This means all 112 million active Minecraft users can sign up to attend, while dance fans unfamiliar with the game can watch via artist livestreams on the Rave Family club website.
