Real music is returning to get us back on our feet dancing, as Missy Elliott has announced that she’ll be releasing her first album in 14 years, tonight. Yep, Iconology is coming out tonight, and we have been waiting for so many years for this.
Get absolutely excited, it’s Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott season. Only yesterday we were reporting on the brand new Museum of Missy Elliott, which one could only assume is a way to promote new music, but when it comes to the U.S. rapper, new music isn’t exactly a common occurrence.
There’s been a few tracks here and there throughout the years like 2017’s ‘I’m Better’ and 2016’s ‘WTF’, but it seems that these songs will never have a home, and are being scrapped for this brand new project with Timbaland. And anyone who knows Missy Elliott knows that her and Timbaland work like magic when they are together.
Missy took to Instagram to write:
“This year has been a tremendous year for me…I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me! So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight…I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #Iconology”
So this is the world we live in now, we are actually getting new music from one of the most legendary female rappers to ever step foot onto the scene. Elliott is the reason most femcees these days even exist, and is credited for bringing the fun and carelessness to hip-hop ever since her debut album Supa Dupa Fly in 1997.
So until Iconology comes out tonight, enjoy this classic from Missy.
