There is definitely no better way to start a mixtape when you find a new Alt-J track… Recorded for movie soundtrack and a collaboration with Mountain Man you’ll soon understand why we made it our feature. Followed on by Ty Seagull, a brand new track from Tone Deaf faves Jeremy Neale and Buckley Ward, another new track from Everything Everything, and a debut single from Dave Di Marco.
Alt-J feat. Mountain Man – Buffalo
Recorded for the soundtrack of an upcoming romantic comedy called Silver Linings the latest offering from Alt-J comes in the form of a collaboration. The collaborators in question are the all-girl folk-rock trio Mountain Man whose beautiful harmonies are welcome alongside the stunning croons of Alt-J’s lead singer Joe Green. Full of big drum sounds juxtaposed with gentle bells and beautiful guitar picking, ‘Buffalo’ is just another example of why Alt-J are rocking everyone’s world.
Ty Segall – You’re The Doctor
Ty Segall’s spent 2012 proving without a shadow of a doubt that he is the undisputed King of garage rock and roll. So much so that on ‘You’re The Doctor’, one of the highlights from his latest offering Twins, he even channels The King himself while he blasts through this two minute banger. With a pulsating bang! bang! bang! bang! drumbeat and a mixture of wolf whistles and guitar squalls, Segall provides us with what is possibly his most straight-forward party song to date. He wails in the chorus “there’s a problem in my brain!” before spending the last half of the song letting his guitar wail even harder. Forget DZ Deathrays or Bleeding Knees Club; Ty Segall is where the party’s at.
Jeremy Neale – A Love Affair To Keep You There
Brisbane based act Jeremy Neale has released a new single following several independent releases earlier this year, his newest entitled A Love Affair To Keep You There provokes a more sophisticated sound with the help of four fellow friends and musicians. Combining up beat rock and roll influence with proud Australian vocals Neale seemingly knows what he’s doing. Although coming across as an middle upperclass pretty boy the singers lyrical direction has strength, impressive production and high fidelity recording quality also justify the songs boundaries. While missing particular soul implied through the lyrical content the song again rebounds with an enjoyable overtone that’s an easy listen.
Everything Everything – Kemosabe
Following up the release of ‘Cough Cough’ from their forthcoming record Arc, Manchester’s Everything Everything have given us another taste of what’s to come with ‘Kemosabe’. Typically syncopated beats and a pulsing synth underpins the whole song whilst soaring falsetto vocals dominate the chorus. Another indie electro singalong track that paves the way for an anticipated release in 2013.
Dave Di Marco – Dublin
‘Dublin’ is the debut single for Brisbane solo artist, Dave Di Marco, also a founding member of Charlie Mayfair. Immediately catchy ‘Dublin’ is a stripped back alt country folk song, with a flawless vocal delivery and honest lyrics. It’s chilled vibe is a reminder of a light breezy summer’s day. A welcome solo move from Dave Di Marco, keep an eye out for his forthcoming EP.
Buckley Ward – Two Strands
The new single from Melbourne’s Buckley Ward, “Two Strands” charms straight away and though it comes across as your usual pop tune, the melting pot of boy-girl harmonies in the choruses will further warm even the coldest of hearts (despite some darkness that lies beneath the melodies after a few listens). Plucked from their second album released earlier this year, So Pretend, keep an eye out for an accompanying film clip for this shimmery gem.
