Canadian electronic R&B/ alt-pop champion Jessy Lanza has recently unveiled her sophomore album Oh No and it’s a worthy follow on to her 2013 standout Pull My Hair Back which wowed critics and fans alike with its unique fusion of electro-pop and ’90s R&B.
Made in her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, with production partner Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys, Oh No is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making, which used to calm her nerves, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill.
Drawing on an eclectic mix of inspirations for this record, including the philosophy of experimental pop of Japanese 80s electro outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra, Jessy has once again managed to produce work that’s both referential and wholly unclassifiable.
