There has been a lot of attention on Barry Gibb of late. With his solo Mythology tour just wrapped up, the former Bee Gee now has some of his and his brother’s work hitting the shelves again in the form of a greatest hits compilation.

However this is not your average best of collection as it simply spans their work from just the years of 1965 to 1966. Entitled Morning Of My Life, the album contains a total of 24 tracks from these early years.

The Redcliffe trio had hit upon hit over the years including the first track off the album in the form of “Spicks And Specks”.

The moment this song starts up with the keys intro it has you grooving along to the music. The band had a lot of songs like this and quite a few feature on this LP including “I Am The World”, “I Want Home” and “In The Morning”.

The sound of The Bee Gees back in the day was very similar to that of the British bands doing the rounds and they really proved that they were our answer to the likes of The Beatles and The Kinks.

The album is full of beautiful music and vocal harmonies however it’s simply too long.

By the time it reaches its halfway point at track 12 (which would be the standard length of most albums) the songs all start to blend in and sound very much the same.

They’ve gone for too much here but if you’re willing to just listen to one half of the album at a time then you’ll have a very enjoyable experience.
