It might come as no surprise to some to learn that Mariah Carey has topped the list of most annoying Christmas songs with her inescapable ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

It’s now December, which means that whether we like it or not, the festive season is now upon us.

Likewise, this means that for anyone stuck working retail or doing their Christmas shopping, they’ll be inundated with countless pieces of festive music, set to get you into the spirit of the season with their saccharine melodies.

Now, a poll by The Evening Standard in the UK has revealed the most hated songs of the festive season, with none other than Mariah Carey topping the list for her 1994 hit, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

While the list itself is somewhat UK-centric, it does feature a number of tracks that are almost impossible to hear wherever you are in the world. Think Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’, ‘Fairytale Of New York’ by The Pogues, or Eartha Kitt’s ‘Santa Baby’.

Amazingly, a bunch of seasonal standards that would make you want to pull your hair out haven’t made the list, including the likes of Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’, which any current or former Woolworths employee would associate with the most awful retail period of the year.

Launching their new song, ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time For A Beer’, the relatable anthem speaks to the Aussie crowd fed up with the silly season, and is likely named for the rallying cry only heard after a day spent dodging crowds while out shopping.

“We know there are plenty of Aussies out there who aren’t terribly stoked about Christmas and are getting a touch over listening to the same songs about a ‘perfect’ Christmas every year,” explains Carlton Dry’s Associate Director, Hayden Turner. “This song is for them.

“And in the spirit of some healthy Christmas competition, we’ve made it our only Christmas wish to dismantle Queen Mariah’s throne, even just for one day.”

So how do you help Carlton Dry knock Mariah off the top of the Spotify charts? Well, all you have to do is head on over to Spotify right now and be sure to give the newly-released track plenty of spins to ensure it shoots right to the top just in time for December 25th.
