Over the course of its eight seasons, Game Of Thrones has boasted a roster of legendary cameos. To celebrate the show’s final season, we’re taking a look at our favourite musical cameos that this glorious series has blessed us with.

Mastodon, “Hardhome,” Season 5

There really are very few differences between wildings and heavy metal musicians. Which is probably why we initially didn’t recognize that members of legendary Atlanta metal band Mastodon received the north-of-the-wall treatment.

Sigur Rós, “The Lion and the Rose,” Season 4

The Icelandic band appeared at the marriage ceremony of Margaery Tyrell and the wicked Joffrey Lannister. The band even recorded a glum cover of ‘The Rains of Castemere,’ Check out their interpretation below.

Ed Sheeran, “Dragonstone,” Season 7

Possibly the most talked about music cameo the series has offered thus far, the most pointless too. Ed’s cameo led us to believe that he was going to have some form of character arc. Ultimately, he played a sweet little ditty in the forest and was never to be seen again. His fate was revealed later, unfortunately, “Eddie” was a victim of dragon fire.

Wilko Johnson, Seasons 1 – 2

Wilko Johnson, guitarist of seminal pub-rock band Dr. Feelgood, was the man responsible for the execution of Ned Stark. Johnson appeared throughout seasons one and two, playing executioner Ser Illyn Payne. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and had to put his career as an executioner on hold.

Of Monsters and Men, “The Door,” Season 6

Not to be confused with the legendary metalcore act, Of Mice And Men. The second Icelandic band to rear their heads in the Kingdom of Westeros. The folk group appeared as travelling musicians with the theatre troupe that Arya gets involved with in Braavos.

Will Champion from Coldplay, “The Rains of Castamere,” Season 3

We’re not convinced that there’s anyone on the face of this earth that can identify a member of Coldplay that isn’t Chris Martin, so to miss this cameo would be forgivable. Coldplay drummer Will Champion is featured as the drummer who plays the series’ favourite tune ‘The Rains of Castamere’ in the lead up to the fateful Red Wedding.

Foals, The Long Night, Season 8

Foals featured on the most recent episode of Game of Thrones. Where they were treated to an early death and a fresh wig. Drummer Jack Bevan promised to “buy a Dairy Milk” for whoever spotted him in the show. Unfortunately, we’ll all be going to bed without sweets, because if you claim that you saw anything during that episode you’re a stone cold liar.

There are also a bunch of core characters that have dabbled in the world of music. Kristian Nairn, who played the beloved Hodor, has a fruitful career as a guitarist and DJ. Back in June last year, footage emerged of Nairn jamming backstage with Megadeth at Hellfest in France.

Natalia Tena, who played Osha — a wildling that served house Stark — is best known for her role as Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter series. Tena also sings and plays the accordion in her band Molotov Jukebox.

Whilst Jerome Flynn, who plays the role of hedonist Bronn was part of the pop duo Robson & Jerome. The band released a cover of ‘Unchained Melody’ which became one of the biggest-selling singles in the country with a whopping 1.87 million copies sold.
