It’s a bit of cooking playlist for this weekend, with a mixture of new rave, soulful blues infused rock, a touch of psychedelia & a pinch of synth textured tunes. Our opening track comes from British trio Is Tropical with their killer new single ‘Dancing Anymore’, followed by soulful Sydney rockers The Preatures, straight into The Murlocs, before Canadian lasses Chic Gamine, then Melbourne’s Baptism Of Uzi & Private Life and we finish off with Disclosure featuring Eliza Doolittle and The Dead Daisies featuring guitar god Slash!
Is Tropical – Dancing Anymore
British new rave trio Is Tropical unveil new track ‘Dancing Anymore’ with a smoother-than-smooth heavy bass line, hazey synths and nonchalant vocals. Eager snares and super-compressed kicks give it a real 80s new wave feel. A killer dance track with an interesting film clip; take note, this video is one that’s definitely NSFW.
The Preatures – This Is How You Feel
Indie quintet The Preatures are back with this summery laid-back groove, ‘Is This How You Feel?’ The Sydney locals first created some waves with the bluesy ballad ‘Take A Card’ and their latest offering is just as infectious. Delightful crisp vocals and transient beats will have you hitting repeat on this funky tune.
The Murlcos – Rattle The Chain
Alt-country rock at its finest, The Murlocs bring the blues in raw single ‘Rattle The Chain’. Vocalist Kenny Smith’s sexy drawl of “I’m your slave, night and day” is dripping in cool, setting themselves apart from the low-fi garage rockers out at the moment (and boy, are there plenty) with a dirty and swampy winning style. And there’s a wicked harmonica line, need I say more?
Chic Gamine – Days and Days
Straight from their sophomore album, Closer, ‘Days and Days’ showcases Canadian soul collective Chic Gamine’s row vocal talents. Set to a gentle drum tap and hand claps, the vocals intertwine impressive soul style solos and flawless acapella harmonies along with lush but not overpowering production.
Baptism Of Uzi – Stray Current
Melbourne space rockers Baptism Of Uzi take a poppier turn in their latest single, “Stray Current”. Still undoubtedly influenced by the psychedelic, the song has a lot more structure than previous releases and is driven by trippy synth riffs. It is also surprisingly dominated by some sleepy vocal hooks, reminiscent of fellow krautrockers Midnight Juggernaughts.
Private Life – Mine
Taken from the Melbourne duo’s forthcoming EP, expected in mid May, ‘Mine’ starts off with some heavy riffs, before the chorus makes way for synth textures. The track leans heavily on the electro side of the indie relationship, while older track ‘Follow The Sun’ was comparatively more rock. Sounding somewhat 80s the track glides along capturing its audience with a catchy chorus. ‘Mine’ looks set to fit nicely in your road trip playlist.
Disclosure – You & Me ft. Eliza Doolittle
UK electronic duo are Disclosure are seriously making waves with their third single ‘You & Me’ featuring the delightful Eliza Doolittle, making their debut album release in June all the more anticipated. ‘You & Me’ is another great indie/dance cross over track, from the production duo that blends smooth vocals and a great new wave sound of UK garage that’s accessible to all music fans.
The Dead Daisies – Lock ‘N’ Load ft. Slash
New super group The Dead Daisies, who are: Jon Stevens (Noiseworks), Alex Carapetis (Nine Inch Nails), Richard Fortus (Guns ‘N’ Roses), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), David Lowy (Mink/The Angels), and Clayton Doley (Divinyls/Jimmy Barnes), have released their first single Lock ‘N’ Load with a little bit of help from guitar god Slash, who features on the track. Not much needs to be said really, except take a listen, because the above cast of musicians speaks for itself.
