The extraordinary alt-country artist Gillian Welch looks to be having a new album out this April. It’ll be her first album since 2003’s Soul Journey and as in the past it is being completed with her long term partner and collaborator David Rawlings.

Welch’s tour of Australia in 2004 is still spoken of in reverential terms amongst both musicians and fans – the sold out shows were described as being a religious experience and left both fans and even the merely curious gobsmacked. Welch and Rawlings haven’t yet completed the album so the date is only tentative, but let’s keep our fingers crossed for another tour of Australia this year.
