Harmony Release New EP, Announce East Coast Dates

Following their signing to Poison City Records, Melbourne’s Harmony will release a brand new 7”/ EP Diminishing Returns on 15th November before playing several intimate shows to see out 2013. Eerily disparate and gorgeously bluesy, Diminishing Returns’ conclusion sneaks up on you and abruptly cuts short this immensely engrossing listen (have a taste of the title track here). Featuring Tom Lyngcoln (The Nation Blue), Jon Chapple (McLusky) and Alex Lyngcoln (Remake Remodel), Harmony channel the intensity of their previous projects into brooding, protracted creations, while Amanda Roff (Ukeladies), Quinn Veldhuis and Erica Dunn tear the arrangements apart with sweet reprise. Following on from their run of Australian shows supporting The Drones, Harmony will play the following shows on the East Coast next month

Straight Arrows Announce New Single, Australian Tour 2013

‘Make Up Your Mind’ is the first single from the forthcoming Straight Arrows LP, due March 2014 on Rice is Nice (Aus) and Agitated (UK/EU). It may have been three years between drinks, but Straight Arrows have been busy. Since releasing the award winning It’s Happening album they’ve been touring the USA, releasing albums in the UK, cassettes in the USA, 7” singles in the USA and Italy and sharing stages with the likes of The Gories, Thee Oh Sees, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Jay Reatard (RIP) and Ty Segall. The upcoming Straight Arrows album was committed to tape in glorious ‘medium fidelity’ by frontman Owen Penglis, half in his kitchen, the rest in his new, legitimate studio after some neighbours started getting mad about all the quality recordings happening next door. Who said punk isn’t high culture? Straight Arrows are about to hit the road, touring nationally with Violent Soho. Check them out at the following venues:

Bauhaus Frontman Peter Murphy Announces Australian Tour 2013

Iconic frontman Peter Murphy has announced the Mr. Moonlight Tour, celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus. Murphy, who has started working with producer Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve) on the follow up to his 2011 critically acclaimed solo effort, NINTH. Murphy will play three shows in Australia this December with a full band performing only Bauhaus material, from the band formed in 1978 and achieving cult worldwide acclaim that’s lasted to this day. Bauhaus originally split in 1983, but eventually bowed to public pressure to reform in 1998 and again in 2005. The Mr. Moonlight Tour will be the first time since 2006 that Peter Murphy will perform full Bauhaus sets, and the first time ever that he will do so on his own.

Whitaker Announces New Wichita EP, East Coast Tour

Melbourne’s own Whitaker has announced the independent release of the five-track Wichita EP on 22nd November, before the band hitting the road for a run of East Coast tour dates. Produced by good friend Jono Steer (Hayden Calnin, Gypsy & The Cat, Ainslie Wills), Wichita is the embodiment of Whitaker’s sound and the recording philosophy ‘nothing matters more than the vibe’. The result is a joyous, patient thoughtful set that reflects a raw immediacy, recorded in old halls and unique spaces around Melbourne. The title track ‘Wichita’ saw the Abbotsford Convent’s auditorium filled with a choir of the band’s friends and two brothers playing brass. Party vibes ensued. Existing over the years in many forms and with many names independent Melbourne band, Whitaker, has for the best part of a decade been relentlessly creating, releasing and touring new music. At its core, Whitaker is formed by the dedicated talents of Ryan Meeking, Brett Scapin and Simon Rabl – musicians raised by Melbourne’s vibrant music scene. Don’t miss Whitaker as they hit the road this November.
