While producing many wonderful artists – whom automatically get referred to as Australian if they have any worldwide success – the Kiwi record industry seems to be a sheep short of a shag with this one. The Recording Industry Association of New Zealand has set up a website to encourage music fans to dob on others that download music. The RIANZ site www.reportmusicpiracy.co.nz lets users lodge a complaint with RIANZ about illegal musical activities, through an email link or by contacting a dedicated Music Piracy Phone Line.
The site also provides information on how to spot pirate discs, as well as a link to the industry association’s consumer website www.lovemusic.co.nz, which collates news and features about the latest music releases. As yet there is no facility on the website to report shitty Kiwi hip hop acts.
