We’ve only just gotten through our self-imposed period of mourning since garage royalty The White Stripes announced they were breaking up. So it’s a perfect time for frontman Jack White to stick the knife in and turn by declaring there is ‘absolutely no chance’ that the group will ever reform.
We know what you’re thinking, how many bands have told us they wouldn’t reform only to inevitably do just that? Yeah, we’re looking at you Stone Roses.
Regardless, White confirmed his position in an interview recently saying, “Absolutely no chance. I couldn’t see any reason to ever do that. I’m not the kind of person that would retire from baseball and come out of retirement the next year. I mean, if we went to all the trouble of telling people we’re done, we meant it, you know?”
“If we were forced to change our mind about that, I can only imagine being the reason (sic), like if for some reason we went bankrupt or something or needed the cash, which would be a really sad thing, I would probably be issuing an apology along with the announcement of the show dates!”
But we shouldn’t be too sad, it isn’t like White has fallen off the face of the Earth. In fact, he’s been more prolific than ever.
Since the break up White has got a divorce and has been focusing on his record label, Third Man Records, spitting out re-releases, rarities, signing new artists, and new music including his bizarre collaboration with the Insane Clown Posse.
He’s also announced his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, which is due for release on 24th April this year, hitting the road shortly after including a show at Fuji Rock in Japan. So will we see him at Splendour In The Grass 2012? Only time will tell with the official lineup announcement expected in a matter of weeks.
Regardless, fans can rest assured that although The White Stripes may be gone forever – Jack White is just warming up.
