The trickle of reports coming in for the highly-anticipated album from Daft Punk just get more and more interesting.
Following reports earlier in the year that the French duo had hit up Nile Rodgers (of Chic fame) for his services on the forthcoming LP, it seems that the pair have now asked another music legend to contribute.
Italian producer Georgio Moroder, best known for kick-starting Disco into a new age with his collaborations with Donna Summer, has revealed during an interview with the International Music Summit in Ibiza that he recently went into the studio to record with Daft Punk.
According to URB, the synth pioneer was asked to “go into a vocal booth and speak about his life.” The resulting ‘rap’ was recorded onto “multiple microphones of various vintages from the ’60s to today.” When Moroder, no stranger to the studio himself, asked about the need for so much equipment – an engineer replied “that the mic they would use would depend on what decade of his life he was speaking about.”
Again asking the engineer if anyone would know the difference, his simple reply was “they will know.”
As with all things to do with the robot-helmed duo, there’s an air of mystery to Moroder’s story, and there are no further details from the famously secretive Daft Punk camp about a release date, title, track-listing – anything.
If we were to put our five cents in; the Georgio Moroder/Nile Rodgers connection may suggest that the first new studio album from the electronic duo since 2010’s soundtrack for Tron: Legacy could be heading in a disco direction. We live in hope – if only to see those robots in Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever catsuits.
