Fresh from receiving a pair of honorary 400kg drum sticks from his Ohio hometown, the ‘Nicest Guy In Rock’, Dave Grohl is adding another feather to his impressive plumage. The Foo Fighter has added film-maker to his resumé, with the impending release of Sound City – a feature-length documentary about the legendary Sound City recording studios in California.

Grohl has even released a handful of clips from the upcoming doco, which he previously had been fairly secretive about since a star studded trailer for the documentary surfaced online a few months ago that gave a glimpse into the film.

The film follows a recording console that Grohl purchased from the studio, located in Los Angeles’ Van Nuys area, when it announced last year it would be closing its doors after providing an iconic space for recording artists since 1969.

The Foo and celebrity-drummer-for-hire even recorded there himself, when Nirvana crafted their 1991 masterpiece, Nevermind with producer Butch Vig.

In fact Vig is featured in the film alongside a huge list of musicians and producers all interviewed for the film project. Besides the Nevermind producer and Garbage member, the film features appearances from (*deep breath*):
Frank Black (The Pixies), Ross Robinson (producer Korn, Slipknot), fellow Foo, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Tim Commemford (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Tom Petty, Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac; and – of course – Grohl’s best pal and everyone’s favourite flame-haired Elvis: Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures).

Sound City is currently in post-production, but Groh’s Roswell Films plans to have the film ready for a release in the near-future. The film’s official twitter page had this to tweet:
