With the upcoming release of his new album The Hurry And The Harm, City & Colour’s Dallas Green has today ruled out a major festival appearance in early 2014, but is still keen on hitting our shores for possible headlining shows.
Speaking in an interview with Triple J Breakfast Hosts, Tom Ballard and Alex Dyson this morning, Green revealed his intentions for playing the Big Day Out festival in January of next year, but was sadly “overlooked” by the bookers, as FasterLouder reports.
The Canadian was recently in the country with his former hardcore act Alexisonfire for a set of goodbye shows and is certainly keen to tour his newest release, his third under his new moniker City & Colour, with Australia as soon as possible.
In today’s Triple J interview, the singer lamented that just last week his intentions for playing the multi-date festival were sadly halted after his band didn’t make the cut. “It turns out that the people doing Big Day Out didn’t end up wanting City & Colour to be on it,” Green revealed.
Despite the festival snub, Green admitted to Tom & Alex the band would “prefer to do our own tour anyway,” so that fans can enjoy City & Colour in all their reverb-heavy glory when they come to our shores in January. But for those who feel jilted they won’t see their favourite Canadian crooner at the one-day festival, Green jokingly suggested that fans could “riot about it” to the festival promoters.
As previously reported, the frontman was keen on hitting our shores as early as January 2014, an obvious spot for the January festival. “I would hope to say that it would be the first month of the new year, because I have a whole bunch of touring booked already for the rest of this year,” Green told FasterLouder in a recent interview. “I would come there tomorrow (if I could) because I love it so much. The Canadian frontman recently revealed he wrote a song for NZ-via-Melbourne artist Kimbra that he decided to keep for himself and eventually turned into City & Colour’s latest single ‘Thirst’.
“I’d never been really approached to do that for someone and I’d never attempted to write something for someone else,” Green said of the commission, which came from Kimbra’s record label, Warner. “I surprised myself. But as time went on we never really heard anything back about it and I started liking the song a bit, as my own.”
“It was for Kimbra. When you listen to it, there’s things about the vocal lines that you can tell I was thinking about her singing it.” The single is laden with brassy vocals and a fuzzy bass hook, something inspired and evolved from the band’s acoustic and emotive serenades found 2011’s Little Hell.
As it turns out, Kimbra never even got the chance to know she’d missed out on adding a Dallas Green-penned tune to her repertoire. “It’s funny because when I met her [at Groovin’ The Moo last year] I said, ‘Did you hear the song I wrote for you?’ and she was like, ‘Nope’. I said, ‘yeah well, it’s mine now’,” the singer recounts.
The new sound will certainly bode well for Green and co. with their newest The Hurry And The Harm set for release through Shock Records on June 7th.
