Australian electronic majors Cut Copy have revealed their first new material since their 2011 Zonoscope album, but rather than simply dropping a digital release or stream online, the dance-savvy four-piece have revealed their brand new single in a rather old school fashion.

As Pitchfork reports, the Modular label darlings released their brand new tune, ‘Let Me Show You’, exclusively at the CHIRP Record Fair over the weekend as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival.

The band had a booth stationed at the record fair where they pressed 120 copies of their new track onto a 12” vinyl single on the spot, hot off the press. Gifting fans with an instant collector’s item with the limited edition press run.

Each lucky fan that managed to snap up a copy of the one-sided vinyl release had their name engraved into the wax, according to one customer who has uploaded a video to YouTube, which also features audio the new Cut Copy single in full – all six throbbing minutes of it.

Featuring Dan Whitford’s new-wave croon, ‘Let Me Show You’ mines a more 90s-influenced dance groove that has a few shades of Primal Scream’s e-fuelled era (including some gospel-like vocal flourishes) along with a rave of Cut Copy’s bubbling synth grooves and yawning guitar interjections in a hypnotic stupor.

The vinyl reveal is reminiscent of another influential electronic group, Scotland’s Boards of Canada, who first broke their silence on their first new material in nearly a decade through a series of unmarked 12” vinyl that cropped up in shops during Record Store Day in April, which coincidentally is when Cut Copy issued their 2004 debut Bright Like Neon Love on vinyl for the first time – causing a bidding frenzy when copies turned up online for wince-inducing prices after the sales-breaking Record Store Day 2013.

‘Let Me Show You’ marks the band’s first new recorded material in two years but it’s unconfirmed if its the first single lifted from a new album, or simply a one-off exclusive, but there have been internet insiders noting that the band had been working on mixes for a fourth album in New York, with a slated October release.

Cut Copy also debuted a new song called ‘Explorers’ live earlier in the year as part of a string of American headline shows, as SPIN reports, but aside from international touring, a hometown gig from the Melbourne electro-wave group has been a long time coming (aside from a few DJ sets here and there).
