Iconic Melbourne live music venue The Hi-Fi has had a stellar couple of years. Off the back of running one of Melbourne’s most successful live music venues targeted at international and larger Australian touring acts, the venue operators bought a venue in Brisbane.
Expanding the brand up north was just part of the plan for the venue, who now offer discounts such as free flights to acts who agree to play both venues. Now according to their website they have purchased a venue in Sydney and plan on expanding the brand further creating an unrivalled east coast venue system.
The Hi-Fi have bucked trends in live music over the last few years which has seen a plethora of venues shut down due to spiralling costs. Brisbane has lost The Troubadour, Sydney has lost Low Bar, Tone Bar, and The Hopetoun, and in Melbourne they lost The Arthouse, The Tote temporarily, The Public Bar, and it looks likely that St Kilda icon Prince Bandroom won’t be with us for much longer either.
A statement on The Hi-Fi website reads as follows:
For the last 15 years The Hi-Fi Melbourne has been hosting the world’s best live music artists and is the home of the legendary Melbourne International Comedy Festival “Festival Club” featuring comedy’s biggest names like The Mighty Boosh, Roy & H.G and Merrick & Rosso.
The Hi-Fi continued to build on its iconic status as Australia’s leading name in live music venues in 2009 when The Hi-Fi Brisbane opened its doors as a state-of-the-art purpose-built live venue and has swiftly become a crucial addition for international and local touring artists.
Picking up the mantle in 2012 The Hi-Fi will continue to do what it does best and bring live music and unforgettable nights to fans with its new venue, The Hi-Fi Sydney. The venue features The Hi-Fi archetypal characteristics of cutting edge sound, lighting & production systems, plus unmatched sightlines, providing the ultimate live music experience for music lovers.
