Iceland’s favourite musical puffin, the diminutive singer Björk, has announced details for her much anticipated new album Biophilia. As previously reported, the album is set to be released as a number of ‘apps’ with accompanying film, visuals and interactive options. The album is set to be released on September 27th, following last month’s re-launch of her website, and fans can now get their mitts on the the first stage of an app version of the album (conveniently still available on CD and vinyl) which can be obtained for free from iTunes now. Two singles, ‘Crystalline’ and ‘Cosmogony,’ which are taken from the new disc, are also available on iTunes along with the album art.
The Icelandic diva has also announced the ultimate in deluxe album editions. A cashed up fan can indulge themselves in an ‘Ultimate Edition’ if they’ve got cash burning a hole in their pockets .If they really love the ‘Biophilia’ concept that much, they can fork out $800 for the lavish package which comes featuring “black uncoated board wallets” and a, “silkscreened oak hinged-lid case for the album.”
Naturally, the singer throws in a ‘Biophilia Manual’ (yep that’s right – a garden variety, typical-for-an-indie-band “48-page, full-colour, hardbound, cloth-covered and thread-sewn book, tipped on lenticular panel to the front cover, with foil-blocked spine and back cover”) and, Pete Smith Copperart stylez; a “10 chrome-plated tuning forks, silkscreened on one face in 10 different colors, stamped at the back, and presented in a flocked tray” in which “each fork is adjusted to the tone of a Biophilia track, covering a complete octave in a non-conventional scale.”
Sounds pretty wanky but we all know what being an obsessive fan can do to us!
