Rock supergroup Velvet Revolver reportedly became even more of a supergroup – with Slipknot front man Corey Taylor joining them to record an album’s worth of songs. Drummer Matt Sorum, who did time in Guns N’ Roses and The Cult has revealed it was his idea to invite him to join in with the band who have been unsuccessfully searching for a replacement singer for Scott Weiland for several years.
However, unfortunately for fans of both bands, it’s unlikely to ever be released. Sorum told a Brazilian music website “We liked it. We had ten songs. We could put the album out tomorrow. It’s done. I said, ‘Let’s go.’ But Slash wasn’t feeling it. If we’re not all feeling it together, we can’t do it.”
Sorum basically says that Slash had a hissyfit and didn’t want Taylor to join the band or to release the songs. He said: “When we asked Corey Taylor to join, that was my idea. I said, ‘Why don’t we get Corey Taylor from Slipknot?’ And he’s a great guy, he’s an absolute sweetheart and he rocks. But Slash just didn’t see it like the rest of us did.”
He’s also tried to put paid to speculation that Velvet Revolver has run its course and is over. He says “It hasn’t fallen into place yet. It’s a bit of a grey era. I don’t wanna say it’s over. It’s just on a hiatus. We’ll make music again together at some point.”
