The Stone Roses reformation has been one of the biggest rumours going around the industry for years, and a few weeks ago frontman Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Mani and drummer Reni held a press conference announcing they’ve got the band back together and they’re planning a world tour.
Immediately the rumour mill whipped into overdrive about where and when the band would be playing. The band at first announced three comeback shows in their hometown of Manchester, England next June. Those shows sold out in a matter of minutes selling over 225,000 tickets, at a rate of more than 10,000 tickets a minute. Now they’ve added some festival appearances, including at Spain’s Benicassim Festival, Japan’s Fuji Rock, and Scotland’s T in the Park.
According to The Stone Roses official website the band will appear as headliners on each of the three festivals. So where does Splendour In The Grass fit into all of this? Well you see the bands playing Fuji Rock can often give you a good idea about who’ll be playing Splendour. Just look at this year for example where Coldplay headlined both Fuji Rock and Splendour.
Of course this is just mere speculation and the lineups don’t always match up. But The Stone Roses have been rumoured to have already been approached by Australian promoters and a festival appearance at Splendour to coincide with a tour would make sense. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any other clues but don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing to Fools Gold at Splendour next year.
