It’s that time of year again, Spring is here and it’s starting to bring the warm weather with it. Which means, it must be festival season, and unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve no doubt noticed the plethora of lineup announcements we’ve been having these past few weeks.
But with most major announcements out of the way now that Laneway has finally unveiled its lineup of the worlds most hyped bands, there is still one festival which has been notably quiet – Future Music Festival, which has carved out a name for itself these past few years by consistently delivering a lineup that has ultimate cross-over appeal.
Pretty much one of the last festivals of the season, held annually around the country in March, fans were treated to an eclectic array of bands earlier this year for the 2012 event including New Order, The Rapture, Friendly Fires, and Aphex Twin.
The 2012 lineup was announced on 10th October 2011 which means we should be due for the 1st lineup of acts any day, confirmed by promoter Future Entertainment who just tweeted that the announcement “can’t be too far around the corner”.
Spring is truly in the air here in Sydney today! Announcement time for Future Music Festival 2013 can’t be too far around the corner ;)

But what can we expect from the announcement? 2012 has been a remarkable year if not for the lineups we’ve been offered by each festival, then for the ability of each promoter to keep their lineups from leaking early unlike years past.
But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from churning.
Our first prediction for Future Music Festival 2013 is recently reformed British icons The Stone Roses. The volatile band have been the subject of intense industry whispers ever since their reunion was announced and Future Music Festival has consistently been mentioned in the same breath.
We’re also putting our money on The Strokes. Currently locked in a recording studio for their fifth studio album, Future Entertainment were widely rumoured to be chasing the New York five-piece for the 2012 event.
The tour failed to materialise however due to conflicting scheduling due to a Foo Fighters tour they were rumoured to have been booked for but changed at the last minute. The timing could be better this time around, however a lot will depend on how productive the studio time is for the group.
Our final prediction is Frank Ocean, who owes Future Entertainment a favour after unceremoniously pulling out of the 2012 event at the eleventh hour mere weeks before the festival was due to kick off to focus on his debut album.
Since then Ocean has released his debut to huge critical and commercial acclaim, and can now return to Future Music Festival for his highly anticipated live show.
So keep an eye out for the official announcement sometime in the next week, because we’re sure this is an announcement you’re not going to want to miss.
