UPDATE: With tickets for Wilco’s first Melbourne show almost sold out, Love Police are delighted to announce a second and final show at Hamer Hall on Thursday March 28th. Ticketing details below.
Following yesterday’s announcement from the award-winning Bluesfest,
The lineup for the award-winning Bluesfest is already proving to be one of the biggest and the best of next year’s festival lineup, and after two major lineup announcements, and following on from yesterday’s first round of sideshows, including Supertramp’s Roger Hodgson, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples and more; today American live rock institution WILCO have confirmed they’re playing a sideshow in Melbourne on top of appearing on the Byron Bay lineup.
Just one of the many trickst that festival promoter Peter Noble has promised is up his sleeve in his colourful interview with Tone Deaf, Wilco’s sideshow is bound to have Melbourne fans in a spin as the band are a regularly visiting and much-beloved act in Australia.
Promoters Love Police confirmed that the Chicago six-piece will be playing Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on March 27, 2013 (full details below), and while it’s the only date of a proposed Australian and NZ tour that’s actually in Australia (aside from Bluesfest), Love Police have stated that “It is fair to assume they may be playing another show around that time. Stick with us, and we will let you know real soon what is rollin’.”
The transformation of Wilco, from their origins humble mid-90s alt-country to one of the industry’s most respected, innovative, and hard-working bands, is one of music’s more interesting stories.
Few careers have aged better, despite some turbulent lineup changes, the current lineup of founding member and ringleader Jeff Tweedy, long-term bassist John Stirratt, percussionist Glenn Kotche, keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, and guitar wizard Nels Cline – has been the stable lineup for nearly half-a-decade.
Now cemented as Wilco’s deinitive roster, they’re no strangers to these shores, having been increasingly regular visitors to Australia since their inaugural visit in 2003 for the Big Day Out tour.
Still on the road pushing their stellar 2011 album The Whole Love, Wilco have been invited back to perform at the 2013 instalment of Byron Bay’s historic Bluesfest – where they last tore up the stage in 2008 – and while they’re in the country – they’re going to play a headline show in Melbourne.
So if you want to experience the full gamut of the musical experience in one very special night – ranging from quiet introspection and gentle nuance right through to massive sound tsunamis, often within the framework of the same song – then don’t miss the one and only Wilco when they hit Australia next March and April, proudly brought to you by Love Police Touring.
