It’s kind of widely-known that if you’re a music festival aficionado, then Tasmania is not going to be your prime base of operations. While it’s usually the mainland (and particularly the East Coast) that get’s the lion’s share of music events and tours, things are looking up for Tasmania this year music-wise.

Following on from the impressive lineup for MONA FOMA 2013, including headliners David Byrne & St. Vincent – giving their collaborative album Love This Giant the touring treatment – organisers behind the Breath of Life Festival, namely ARIA award winning artist Mark ‘Diesel’ Lizotte, are following on from last year’s successful debut and bringing an impressive little lineup to Launceston’s Inveresk Showgrounds for a second showing in 2013.

The one-day music festival will be held on Sunday 10th March 2013 and feature three stages, with a focus on hip-hop, hard and heavy tunes, and a selection of Ministry of Sound backed acts on a special stage.

UK garage-hop upstart DIZZEE RASCAL will be hopping across from playing Future Music Festival to headline Breath of Life 2013, and leads the first round of acts announced for the festival with more to be expected in the coming weeks. Alongside Dizzee is three of Australia’s most popular hip-hop groups, namely Bliss N Eso, Illy, and coming off the back of his JIMA award, 360.

They’ll be backed by some of Australia’s hardest-working rock bands including Perth’s Birds Of Tokyo, Melbourne prog-lined outfit Dead Letter Circus, hardcore outfits Dream On Dreamer and House Vs Hurricane, and flush from the success of debuting at #1 on the charts with their latest album, The Amity Affliction are also on the bill.

Breath Of Life Festival is also so-named because it donates part of its proceeds to the Australian Lung Foundation to go towards helping research in health initiatives, as well as education and support for sufferers of lung disease.

Not only that, but prospective festival-goers can ‘fundraise their way in’ for entry as well by helping the Australian Lung Foundation directly. Standard tickets to the event, which is licensed and all ages, start at $125 + b/f, with a limited 500 VIP tickets also available to the event, which include express entry, designated areas, private toilet and bars, and a range of other nice extras that justify it’s $275 + b/f price tag.

The full list of options is available at: breathoflifefestival.com. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 24th October at 9am.
